Clinical Use of Mini-Scleral Contact Lens in Ocular Surface Diseases

چکیده
A scleral contact lens lies on the sclera, not cornea, which differs from a rigid gas permeable (RGP) lens, and has shown successful clinical outcomes in patients unable to tolerate glasses or RGP lenses because of severely deformed cornea. In addition, forms tear film between cornea that stabilizes ocular surface could be useful therapeutic option. The mini-scleral is option for visual improvement symptom control with corneal abnormalities such as keratoconus, opacity, disease, irregular astigmatism.

Contact lens sensors in ocular diagnostics.
Contact lenses as a minimally invasive platform for diagnostics and drug delivery have emerged in recent years. Contact lens sensors have been developed for analyzing the glucose composition of tears as a surrogate for blood glucose monitoring and for the diagnosis of glaucoma by measuring intraocular pressure. However, the eye offers a wider diagnostic potential as a sensing site and therefore...

Scleral contact lens technology had been applied for several years as part of the treatment of ocular surface diseases, as well as for compensation of corneal surface irregularities. In recent years, new scleral lens designs were developed to compensate for current refractive errors. Becoming more widely used, it is crucial to question the long-term effects of their presence on ocular health. O...

PURPOSE To evaluate the feasibility and efficacy of mini-scleral design (MSD) contact lenses to treat keratoconus patients who were unsatisfied with the results of corneal inlay. METHODS In this prospective interventional case series, 9 eyes of 6 keratoconus patients who were unsatisfied with the results of corneal inlay were fitted with MSD contact lenses. Demographic data, uncorrected visua...
